Production Support & Planning Technician -Shildon

Salary: Competitive depending on experience

Our client is a precision engineering and fabrication family-run company with over 45 years. As they have a loyal, highly skilled, and dedicated workforce who are committed to CPD ensuring customer deadlines and quality requirements are continuously achieved with all sectors of machining, fabrication and engineering experience. They are based in Shildon, England.

The Role:

Our client requires a technician or Craft Apprentice (NVQ Level 4) or Engineering Graduate to train as a Production Support & Planning Technician. This role may suit a candidate that has previously worked as a Production Technician or Planner preferably in a subcontract CNC machining environment. This role may also suit a Graduate who has a Mechanical Engineering degree (or related engineering degree) wishing to develop their career in manufacturing.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Compile Bills of Materials
  • Preparation of Works Order route card documentation/job packages for repeat orders/proven jobs for Production. This includes all job documentation – including program, set up sheet, detailing work holding equipment, tooling and inspection equipment lists, handling requirements and all H & S requirements relevant to the job.
  • Download programs to CNC machines and upload and save programs which have been run.
  • Assist with processing all completed works orders, ensuring documentation and programs are saved and filed properly.
  • Production of drawings as required
  • Liaise with planning ensuring all updates and changes to job packages including routings are notified as soon as possible.
  • Update and benchmark plan morning and afternoon. Print off plan and put up on notice board after updating.
  • Plan all orders in a timely manner to ensure delivery dates are achieved, liaise with all relevant departments.
  • Project manage all large volume/value orders and assembly orders, compiling spreadsheet to track routing through production. Update on a daily basis. Ensure all aspects of the order are met for the customer, liaising with the sales, production support including tooling and work holding, production including sub-contract processes, QA and transport departments to ensure all requirements are achieved.
  • Update and complete the plan info sheet with delivery dates advise Sales & Purchasing of changes and subcon requirements.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree (or an engineering related degree) or Technician or Craft Apprenticeship (NVQ Level 4)
  • An appreciation of how to manufacture machined parts and fabrications as well as understanding and interpreting engineering and technical information.
  • Experience of production engineering and offline programming for CNC 5,4 and 3 axis mills and lathes in a subcontract engineering environment.
  • Ability to produce CAD drawings.
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
  • Clear communicator, good negotiator, and problem solver
  • Confident IT skills.

Hours of Work:

  • 45.5 hours per week. Monday – Thursday 07.00 – 17.00 with ½ hour unpaid lunch break. Friday 07.00 – 15.00 with ½ hour unpaid lunch break.
