My client is a small, specialist primary school providing an autism-specific education for children with a primary diagnosis of autism. They support children from all areas of the autism spectrum and what makes them unique as a school, is their expertise and commitment to provide each child with the individual learning they need, supporting them to flourish and reach their full potential.
They have three distinct learning pathways, each with their own curriculum and teaching methods. Within these pathways, each child has an individual learning profile taught within small class groups, engendering a close family environment. Staff are very highly trained in autism and use a Positive Behaviour Support approach, all culminating to create an effective autism-friendly environment.
My client benefits from having their own in-house specialist multidisciplinary team, comprising psychology, speech & language therapy, occupational therapy and behaviour support specialists, as well as a family support officer, school nurse and music specialist. The team works closely with teaching staff to deliver a rounded and holistic education that centres on autism specific life skills as well as academic skills.
I am looking for aPaediatric Occupational Therapist Band 7 (South London) who is available to start as soon as possible.
You will be working with children aged from 4 to 12 years who have a diagnosis of autism or Asperger Syndrome. My client has a warm, mutually supportive and caring ethos with an enthusiastic and skilled staff team that is highly aspirational and committed to pupil welfare, progress and enhanced life chances.
The Band 7 Senior Occupational Therapist will wish to work in a school setting, and join my client’s multi-disciplinary team comprising of speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, music and yoga therapy.
You will be highly motivated, passionate, dynamic and flexible, have experience working with children and young people.
You will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and have experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams
You must have HCPC Registration, hold a Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and have Paediatric experience, and gained previous relevant experience with autism and/or Asperger’s syndrome.
Your main responsibilities will include group and individual therapy and class based work, carrying out assessments where required, delivering in-service training where required and a strong MDT approach.
In return you will be working with a creative, enthusiastic, supportive and caring team of staff including a supportive in-house Curriculum Access Team.
