The Role:

Our client is looking for a Nursery Deputy Manager, who encourages the children to develop skills and to learn by examples whilst playing, thus making the learning process both fun and enjoyable.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To promote and create a stimulating and educational environment to encourage the children to develop independence and self-reliance.
  • To assist the Preschool Manager in overseeing the day-to-day management, staffing, organisation, and smooth running of the Preschool.
  • To implement the philosophy of LJP and to create a welcoming and family friendly environment.
  • To contribute to the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, and development of the Preschool.
  • To supervise the development, preparation and execution of daily activities and ensure that each session runs smoothly and without repetition.
  • To always contribute to high standards of care and education of children between 0 to five years in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • To develop and promote the EYFS and ensure its delivery within the setting and that the principles are adhered to.
  • To assist in the recruitment and induction of newly employed staff and the regular supervision of existing staff.
  • To ensure effective communication between the staff and with all partner organisations.
  • To seek out and maintain equipment and resources in the Preschool
  • To assist in the day-to-day financial systems directly relating to the provision.
  • To ensure admissions are in line with the admissions policy and that all new children receive the appropriate induction and settling programme.
  • To supervise all staff in the assessment process of each child, by ensuring that all assessments drafted and presented to the parent/guardian within a specific time.
  • To contribute to maintaining a register and up to date records of all children using the provision and to ensure regular feedback to parents about their child’s development and progress.
  • To participate and where necessary organise and execute regular management and staff meetings.
  • To actively participate in ensuring the maintenance of a healthy and safe environment for the children.
  • To ensure all duties and responsibilities are carried out with due regards
  • Supervision / Management of People
  • The post holder will supervise and give appraisal to the following staff: Senior Workers, Preschool Assistants, Auxiliary staff, Knowledge and Skills.
  • Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of care for young children, child development and parenting
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations relating to childcare and the inspection process for approval of day care settings
  • Knowledge and ability to create and implement policies and procedures consistent with legislation, regulations, and local requirements
  • Able to work independently and to manage own time efficiently
  • Experience of managing, supervision, and appraisal of staff
  • Ability to work as a member of an effective team
  • Warm and caring personality – friendly and approachable to families
  • Ability to create and implement basic systems for child records
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels
  • Commitment to the principle that families ‘know best’ about their own needs
  • Commitment to equal opportunities for all children and families

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • Level 3 - 6 Early Childhood Studies or its equivalent (Essential)
  • Early years professional status (EYPS) (Desirable)
  • 2 Years post-qualifying experience of which at least 1 have involved managing/supervising staff (Essential)
