News Product Director (Publishing House) - London

£120k - £125k basic + bonus + flexi/remote working

My client, an award-winning Publishing House is looking for a confident News Product Director whos main focus is to lead their News Product team ensuring alignment with their customer value strategy, editorial KPIs commercial and audience reach.

This role will have accountability for their core products and platforms across web and mobile to ensure they deliver a positive and memorable experience for every reader.

The Publishing House is one of the largest commercial publisher and digital platforms in the UK and is home to the UK and Ireland’s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers.

Last year they sold millions of newspapers, with millions of readers for just one of their brands each month. Their network of websites is extensive and provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with billions of page views per year.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for product roadmap across the portfolio of news products.

Interacts continuously with the Director of Engineering to align product and technology roadmaps and ensure technical innovations are translated into product features that deliver business value

Acts as ‘Product Guardian’, ensuring short-term concerns don’t sabotage long-term success

Communicates and explains Product strategy to stakeholders

Ensures appropriate resources are assigned to deliver the product roadmap, flexing the team as appropriate and forecasting demand in skills.

Ensures major initiatives have clear goals and defined scope (changes to the scope may be discussed and agreed during iterative development, but it should not just drift)

Establishes efficient communication paths between stakeholders and development teams

Makes sure there are standards and expectations in place to ensure quality

Monitors progress and market trends and makes adjustments as necessary

Responsible for continuous improvement of the product team

Deputises for the Group Product Director as appropriate.

Taking accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes.

Fostering a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions.
