Maintenance Manager

Salary: £29k to £32k DOE

Our client is an independent day and boarding school providing an enriched education to boys and girls aged 2 to 13. They are committed to delivering exceptional teaching; combining the best of tradition with the latest innovations. Set within 65 acres of Oxfordshire countryside with outstanding facilities.

They are looking to recruit a Maintenance Manager and the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the School buildings are maintained to the highest standard, from an aesthetic and compliance point of view, so an eye for detail is crucial. The role will be ‘hands on’ with some administrative and budgetary management responsibilities with the opportunity to make a real difference to the School. The role will be line-managed by the Business Manager but will report ultimately to the Headmaster.

General duties:

  • Maintenance, repair and refurbishment of all school buildings, plant and equipment, and accommodation, including staff accommodation.
  • Maintenance of vehicles and equipment belonging to the maintenance department.
  • General repairs and minor alterations across the school, including maintenance of the schools fixtures and fittings.
  • To be aware of the contents of the Workshop Safety Manual.
  • Prepare and monitor a schedule of routine works and maintenance programme, including implementing a job log system for recording requests for repairs.
  • Maintain meticulous records with regards to inspections of property and general preventative maintenance, to include asbestos and legionella.
  • Responsible for arranging and monitoring required compliance testing and maintenance. For example, gas safety, kitchen maintenance and fire safety.
  • Servicing of the fire alarm system
  • Ensuring compliance of current Health & Safety legislation, including COSHH, Risk assessments, PAT testing, asbestos, and attending H&S committee meetings, and carrying out monthly H&S site walk.
  • Complete knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, emergency procedures and the procedure for evacuating the school.
  • Working with the Head of Grounds where necessary, particularly snow/ice clearance of pathways and roads as required during the winter.
  • Working with Swimming Pool Manager on building maintenance as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a hands-on maintenance role.
  • Multi-disciplined with a bias in plumbing and/or electrical background
  • Excellent communication skills and ease in dealing with staff, customers and external suppliers.
  • H&S training and/or qualifications desirable.
  • Experience of liaising with external contractors and service providers.
  • Formal training in manual handling and risk assessment.
  • Familiarity with the Independent education sector.
  • Fundamental budget planning and control skills.
  • A current driving licence

This is a full-time year-round position. The successful candidate must be able to commit to working occasional weekends and late evenings as and when required. Accommodation is available on site.
