This highly successful business is looking for an experienced chief architect to help them build the next generation software platform to fuel their growth. This is an important role in the company and will require someone with strong technical skills and experience designing new products to bring to market. The main goal for this person is to work with the Product Team to help figure out the right approach to delivering products and features on the roadmap and communicate effectively with all levels of the company. They will also work closely with engineering to build the development plans and be involved in the design process.
The role can be based remotely or in the development centre in Bristol.
Work with the Product Team to investigate, prototype and define the technical solutions for the immediate and strategic vision for the company.
Provide in-depth architectural plans and work with the development teams to bring new products and features from vision to delivery.
Communicate complex technical challenges and solutions across the company in a way that is easily understood at all levels.
Ensure the company is aware of and working with the most relevant software technologies in the market to ensure that they future-proof their designs.
Provide architectural vision, direction and governance to guide teams in development and maintenance of new and existing software components
Architect and design new software systems and improve existing software systems in order to meet and exceed customer expectations.
Develop a working relationship with product management and engineering to drive solution features and architectures.
Translation of high-level technical vision to solid architectural designs that translate into executable product roadmaps or focused M&A activity.Previous Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor Degree in technical discipline (e.g. Engineering, Computer Sciences)
10+ Years of experience in developing enterprise grade software and a demonstrated history in architectural leadership.
Deep understanding and technical experience with: Compute, Storage, Networking, Linux internals, Databases, Big Data and Analytics, Security, Applications Development
Proven track record of designing new products that have significant commercial success on the market
Experience designing systems with Linux OS and KVM hypervisors, as well as containers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a range of audience
Experience with at least one software defined storage solution or distributed filesystem such as MapR-FS, Ceph, Scality, DAOs, Lustre, GPFS or HDFS.
Designed or developed traditional hardware defined block, file and object storage solutions
Comfortable working hands-on in a lab to skunkwork a proof of concept
Have a flair for being innovative and finding creative solutions for difficult technical problems
Linux/Unix development environments
Strong code and design review skills
Strong technical communication skills
A strong understanding and competence with C, Python, and Java
The ability to document research and work for various audiences, for the Engineering team and non-developer
